Some UK schools are considering extending the autumn half-term to two weeks.

This is to reduce illness and support wellbeing.

Local councils and school partnerships in England have chosen to extend the half-term after speaking to teachers and parents.

They say it will help reduce the amount of illness that causes pupils to miss school.

To make up for the extra time off in autumn, the local councils and school partnerships have said they would adjust the summer holidays or add extra time to one school day a week.

Unity Schools Partnership in Norfolk has already implemented a two-week half-term after a successful trial last year.

Other regions, like Nottinghamshire and Surrey, are planning to try out the extended two-week half-term holidays.

In England, schools have to meet a minimum of 190 school days per year, but the flexibility of setting term dates varies among different types of schools.
