Scientists have linked genetic material from an ancient skull found in China in 2018 to a mysterious group of early humans.

The skull, nicknamed 'Dragon Man', has been connected to previous findings of Denisovans, a group of prehistoric humans.

Dragon Man, aka Homo longi, was a male around 50 years old and closer to modern humans than Neanderthals.

Denisovans were ancient humans who lived in Asia between 285,000 to 25,000 years ago.

Despite difficulties in retrieving DNA from the skull itself, scientists were able to reconstruct the appearance of Denisovans using teeth plaque.
The discovery has helped clear up the mystery surrounding Denisovans, with hopes of identifying more bones in the future.
