Unlike many animals born at the zoo, this fossa named Zaza is seven years old and was brought from San Diego Zoo in the US.
The goal is to increase fossa numbers to prevent them from going extinct.
Zaza has been paired with a female fossa named Shala at Chester Zoo for breeding.
The animals are usually solitary, so the pair will be kept separated most of the time.
They will be introduced gradually for breeding purposes.
Fossa is a native animal to Madagascar and is currently under threat with fewer than 2,500 left in the wild.

Fossas are known to hunt for prey like lemurs, birds, lizards, and mice.
