這種策略使得企鵝在返回途中在不可預測的海洋條件下有更多的機會進食、潛水和覓食。

Penguins are known for being fantastic swimmers, and have developed plenty of helpful features to help them live in the water.

New research shows that penguins use ocean currents and tides to save energy and find food, instead of swimming in a straight line back to their nests.

The study involved an international team of scientists led by the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behaviour and researchers from Swansea University in Wales.

The team used high-tech tracking devices with GPS and compasses to track the penguins' trips from foraging in the ocean off Argentina in South America.

Penguins adjust their swimming direction based on the strength and direction of currents to conserve energy and take advantage of feeding opportunities.
This strategy allows penguins to have more chances to feed, diving and foraging for food during their return journey in unpredictable ocean conditions.
