A rare common crane chick recently hatched at the WWT Washington Wetland Centre near Sunderland.
This chick is the second offspring of the parent birds at the Wetland centre, part of the Great Crane Project.
The parent cranes were hatched in the Netherlands and later moved to the UK.
In 2008, these parent cranes were relocated to Sunderland and have been thriving in the wetlands ever since.
The family welcomed their first chick together in 2022, a young female, and now have another chick.
The family is currently bonding off-show at the wetland centre in a quiet, protected area.
Common cranes are the tallest birds in the UK, reaching about 4 foot (1.2 meters) in height.
They have a mainly grey plumage, long legs, a long neck, and drooping, curved tail feathers.
Their diet consists of seeds, roots, insects, snails, and worms.
Despite being extinct in the past, common cranes can now be spotted across England, Scotland, and Wales.
