The Vera C. Rubin Observatory takes pictures of the night sky. It is now alerting researchers worldwide of events and discoveries in space.
The alert system was activated on February 24, sending over 800,000 alerts in one night.
Scientists expect the number of alerts to rise to more than 7 million per night.
Eric Bellm helped lead the project and expressed excitement about the science that will result from these data.
